Location

Nestled in the heart of British Columbia, the Okanagan Valley is renowned for its stunning landscapes, including pristine lakes, lush vineyards, and charming country farms. This picturesque region offers a perfect backdrop for a hot air balloon adventure, allowing you to experience the changing seasons from a breathtaking aerial perspective. Whether you're visiting Kelowna or Armstrong, the Okanagan Valley promises a unique and memorable experience that will captivate your senses and leave you with lasting memories.

Our company is based in Kelowna but we can fly in Vernon for an extra fee of $75.

WHERE DO WE FLY?

Your pilot will choose a landing site that is large enough to deflate and pack up the balloon. Most landowners are thrilled to see a beautiful balloon land on their property.

WHERE DO WE LAND?

The flights are 45 minutes to 2 hours depending on the wind and weather.

HOW LONG IS THE RIDE?

We have 3 balloons: Pepita: 7 passengers + pilot Aurora: 6 passengers + pilot Elsa: 2-4 passengers + pilot The temperature outside and the weight of the passengers can reduce the number of people the flight can accommodate.

HOW MANY PEOPLE FIT IN THE BASKET?

We fly mainly in the morning shortly after sunrise; this is when the winds are the calmest. We rarely book flights in the afternoon as the cancellation rate is much higher.

WHEN DO WE FLY?

All flights are made wind and weather permitting. When the pilot calls the day before your flight, we will have the forecast for launch time. In the event of poor weather, we will reschedule with you for another day.

WHAT IF WE GET BAD WEATHER?

No. The temperatures aloft are about the same as they are on the ground, minus the wind chill. Dress should be appropriate for the season. Please wear long pants and close toed shoes.

IS IT COLD OR WINDY IN THE BALLOON?

Of course! A camera or a camcorder is a must for a balloon ride. We ask that you listen to the pilot’s instructions for stowing your equipment for landing.

CAN I BRING A CAMERA?

Yes. We ask for at least two weeks in advance but try to accommodate last minute bookings. The weekends book up fastest. If planning for a holiday in the Okanagan, try to book a few months in advance, if possible

DO I NEED A RESERVATION?

We request you discuss going hot air ballooning with your doctor if you have health issues. It is an outdoor activity and there can be bumpy landings due to wind. We want everyone to enjoy their experience with us, so if you have physical limitations, please consult your doctor. What a unique experience! John and his family and crew were terrific. Fascinating to see how quickly and efficiently set up and take down is. Had no idea! Everyone had a task and worked together yet kept us included from start to finish. My adult daughter and I peacefully glided over Kelowna for the hour long trip. Although we live here the view from above is very different! Although costly, this experience needs to be enjoyed at least once in a lifetime. There wasn’t any wind and we watched the backs of birds flying and deer hiding from us in the trees. Waved and shouted a good morning to those below looking up. Finished with mimosas and fun stories. This company has had years of experience and John thousands of hours as an aeronaut. Highly recommend!

My two adult children and I had the time of our lives on the balloon with John Klempner and another mother and child in mid-August 2025. From the earliest emails to the final drop-off back in the parking lot where we started, our experience with Okanagan Ballooning was top class, friendly and safety-focused. Being on the balloon was magical. It was quiet and serene (except for the flame!) and we were clearly instructed on where to hold on and how to brace ourselves when it came time to land. Joy Klempner and the crew were professional; you could tell that they have worked together enough times to make their system flawless. Joy also took gorgeous photos and shared them with us afterwards. We were entirely taken care of and pampered, and were delighted, after the flight, to each be presented with an Okanagan Ballooning glass (which was promptly filled with our choice of champagne or non-alcoholic cider), as well as a certificate commemorating our flight. Highly recommend! As someone who is afraid of heights this was part of my partner’s bucket list so I went along with the trip. Last weekend we scratched Ballooning off my bucket list. The team was so informative, pleasant and efficient during setting up. They even let us help and be part of the action. Up in the air. Our day came with bright sunshine and a quiet breeze. We saw the helium test balloon rise into the sky and knew we were soon to follow. Our Hot Air Balloon flight was a lifelong dream! We booked our flight for July 30th as a celebration for my birthday, but because of visibility due to forest fire smoke, we had to postpone till September 3rd. The weather was beautiful that day & we got to see the whole process of assembling the equipment to inflating the balloon & enjoying the very peaceful, scenic flight & then seeing how everything is dismantled! John (the pilot) & his family are very professional & John has hundreds of hours piloting balloons! This was my second balloon flight, although the first with this company, so I have something to compare it to. All in all this flight was superb. We had booked the ride a few weeks ago and was not able to go on the day of due to high winds. I appreciate them cancelling so they can ensure everyone stays safe. We rebooked and went yesterday. It was amazing! Pros: -I have a small fear of heights and I felt completely safe at all times. I really had trust in the pilot and he has been doing this for so long.-Amazing views. I took so many pictures but I don't think pictures can do any justice to actually being there.-The staff are very friendly, personable, and professional. -The landing was a bit rough, that being said, the pilot prepared us for it and we landed safely. (Even with a slightly rough landing I would go again!)-cute certificates and sparkling wine at the end.Cons: None.I recommend wearing long pants and proper shoes. I liked having a hoodie so I could cover my head when it got a little warm from the flame. I would recommend Okanagan Ballooning to anyone interested in hot air balloon rides.
